BIMIFY

About BIMIFY

BIMIFY analyzes a model and automatically classifies 3D solids to building elements and assigns spatial locations, spaces, buildings, and stories. It also detects and classifies the external and internal walls.

BIMIFY can automatically detect whether a model is an Architectural, Structural or MEP model. BricsCAD uses this information during the auto-classification process. You can define the discipline of the drawing manually as well, in the Bimify command panel, to improve the accuracy of the automatic classification.

If solids are auto-classified as columns, beams or members and their profiles match a definition in the profile library, the profile name will be automatically added to the entity’s properties as meta-data. If no matching profile definition is found, a new one is created in the library.

BIMIFY can be used in a model that has both classified and unclassified entities. The classified entities are also linked to the appropriate spatial locations.

For more information about this command, visit the Command Reference article BIMIFY command.

Procedure: Bimify your entire drawing

  1. Choose BIMIFY from the: Quad, Ribbon: Data | Design Assistance, BIM Classify toolbar, or type BIMIFY in the Command line.

    The Bimify command panel opens.

  2. Check the Entire drawing (1) option and click the Apply button(2).

When the BIMIFY process is completed, an overview of the result (3) is provided in the Prompt History panel.

Note: If the Keep panel open and show results option is checked, the Bimify command panel will show the progress and results while calculating (4).

Bimify creates new spatial locations if necessary.

Left to right:

  • Before Bimify: The structure tree displays only 3D solids (5).

  • After Bimify: The entities are sorted into their corresponding building (6), story (7) and building element type (8).

Note: The Structure browser can be customized to control the content of the tree.

BIMIFY recognizes the profile of building elements as structural members and detects the axis location of the profile. The profile data of a linear solid can be seen in the Properties panel (9).

The elevation views and floor plan sections are created last.

This building contains Front (10), Left (11), Right (12) and Back (13) views as well as a floor plan (14).

For this simple building, one BIM Space and 4 external walls have been detected.

In the image above, it is illustrated the BIM Space (15) and the Is External (16) property under the Wall Common in the Properties panel.

You can control the functionality of the BIMIFY command by changing the options (17) in the Bimify command panel:

Discipline

Defines the discipline of the drawing manually. This information helps improve the accuracy of Bimify.

Auto-classification Classifies Solids and Block References automatically.
Assign structural/MEP Profiles

Assigns columns, beams, members or flow segments profiles if available in the BIM Profile panel.

This option is available only when the Auto-classification option is selected.

Assign spatial locations

Assigns spatial locations such as buildings and floors, detects spaces and identifies internal and external walls.

This option is available only when the Auto-classification option is selected.

Create spaces

Detects external walls and sets the property Wall Common/is External = ON and also detects spaces. See the BIMSPACE command.

This option is available only when the Assign spatial locations option is selected.

Create sections

Creates an elevation view and a plan section per floor.

This option is available only when the Assign spatial locations option is selected.

Note: To disable the Auto-classification option for solids or blocks, simply uncheck the related checkbox. By default, all checkboxes are ticked. However, BricsCAD remembers your previous settings. Ticking the Assign spatial locations checkbox automatically includes the Auto-classification option. This information is needed to detect the other elements.

Procedure: Bimify a selection of your BIM Model

  1. Type BIMIFY in the Command line.

  2. Click the icon to select the part of your drawing you want to Bimify.

  3. Select the entities in the drawing you want to Bimify.

  4. Press Enter to accept the selection.

Note: Not all the options are available in the Bimify command panel when using BIMIFY on a selection of your BIM Model.
  5. Click the Apply button to complete the Bimify process.

  6. When the Bimify process is completed, an overview of the result is provided in the Prompt History panel.
