Drawing file format compatibility in BricsCAD
The tables below list the AutoCAD® drawing file (.dwg) and drawing exchange file (.dxf) versions that BricsCAD can OPEN and SAVE directly.
The Version column lists the drawing file schemas used in various AutoCAD® releases. For example, DWG 2013 is used in AutoCAD 2013 (R27) through AutoCAD 2017 (R31).
The Internal version is the information reported in the first six positions in the .dwg file header. See the Pro Tip below in the Notes section for more information.

Note:
- The OPEN command opens a DWG or DXF file, directly into a new Document tab in BricsCAD.
- The IMPORT command imports the geometry from an (external) DWG or DXF file into the current drawing in your BricsCAD editing session. This is effectively an external "INSERT" operation; only geometry is loaded into the current drawing.
- Pro Tip: Even though DWG files are binary, and not general human-readable, you can open a drawing file in an ASCII text editor (like MS Notepad) and see the Internal version number (for example: AC1024) as the first six characters in the file. This can be helpful in determining file compatibility, or when working with files from an outside source.
