BricsCAD system requirements

System requirements and recommendations.

Supported Operating Systems
  • Windows 11 (x86-64).
Note: Microsoft ended support for the Windows 11 - version 24H2 (Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations) operating system on October 13, 2026.
  • Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and higher Ubuntu versions that are still supported by Canonical. If you aim for a stable experience, LTS tends to be a good choice. While we work on better Wayland support, we still recommend the Xorg/X11 session. In Ubuntu 24.04 it is available out of the box, while for Ubuntu 26.04 a compatible Desktop Environment / X Display Manager can be installed.
  • openSUSE builds, later than April 2024, with glibc version >= 2.39.
  • Fedora builds, later than April 2024, with glibc version >= 2.39.
  • macOS 13 Ventura or higher (see the Apple compatibility for BricsCAD article).
Note: The Windows and Linux versions of BricsCAD are built and supported for the x86-64 (AMD64) architecture.
Minimum CPU:
  • Intel® Core™ i5
  • AMD Ryzen™ 5
Recommended CPU:
  • Intel® Core™ Ultra 7
  • Intel® Core™ Ultra 9
  • AMD Ryzen™ 7
  • AMD Ryzen™ 9
  • Apple Silicon

The CPU with the highest single-thread performance rating will always excel with BricsCAD.

Additional CPU cores will bring in higher performance, as more and more functions get multithreaded computation in BricsCAD.

Note:
  • Intel® Xeon® and AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ CPUs: These top-tier workstation CPUs support large on-chip memory cache, more PCIe® I/O lanes and multi-channel, high speed memory architectures.
  • BricsCAD (Mac) V27 is distributed as a Universal Binary, which runs natively on both Intel (x86_64) and Apple Silicon (arm64) architectures.
Minimum System Memory:

8 GB

Recommended System Memory:
  • 16 GB

For maximum performance, determine the memory configuration of your PC and ensure that each memory channel on the motherboard is populated with at least one memory module.

Minimum Disk Space:

3 GB for BricsCAD Ultimate, installed

Recommended Disk Space:

(As needed)

We strongly recommend using SSD (Sata 3 / PCI-E NVME) as system drives, for both BricsCAD and Windows. Drawings and support files can reside on slower mechanical hard disk drives, if necessary.

Note: Solid-state disks can be up to 10x faster reading and 20x faster writing data than a mid-range hard disk drive
Minimum Display System:
  • Full HD (1920 x 1080) True Color display and a graphics card with 4 GB VRAM
  • Apple Mac Displays
Recommended Display System:
  • Multiple UHD (3840 x 2160) or 4k True Color displays, with a PCIe® graphics card w/GPUs and 8 GB VRAM
  • Apple Mac Retina (4K and 5K) Displays

On Microsoft Windows systems, most graphics cards & GPUs from NVIDIA, AMD and Intel® are supported. We recommend mid-range gaming video cards.

Note: If you work with point clouds and big models in the model space, we advise changing the graphics settings in Windows as follows:
  1. Go to Graphics settings.
  2. Add BricsCAD as an app to set the preferences.
  3. Set the GPU preference option to High Performance.

On Linux systems, most graphics cards and GPUs from NVIDIA and AMD are supported.

On Mac systems, native Apple display hardware is supported.

The non-wireframe display modes of BricsCAD are generated by RedSDK technology from Redway3D®. The GPU is used to render this modes.

Note: We suggest that you install the latest drivers available for your display hardware, as recommended by the manufacturer.

Note to Linux users: Hardware acceleration of 3D graphics on Linux systems is NOT supported on:

  • Intel® graphics chipsets/cards.
  • Laptops with dual graphics adapters.
