BricsCAD Welcome Screen
Start a project by choosing one of the available options on the welcome screen. The welcome dialog box displays when you launch BricsCAD. This screen allows you to define drawing properties such as profile and units before beginning your new drawing.
The following illustration shows the BricsCAD Get Started tab on the Welcome dialog box.
The Get Started tab includes settings required to start a new drawing in BricsCAD. To start a new drawing, choose one of the available options.
The following table presents each option of the Get Started tab.
|New drawing (1)||Creates a new drawing using the default template of the current profile.|
|Open other drawing(2)||Opens an existing drawing.|
|Start from template (3)||Creates a new drawing using a template of your choice.|
|Open a recent file (4)||Opens the most recent drawings. Up to 20 files can be listed here.|
|Set current profile (5)||Choose a user profile in the list, the most recently used profiles will be shown in here and the most recently used profile is indicated by a blue frame.|

The following illustration shows the BricsCAD Set current profile list.
By default the five most recently used profiles display. If necessary, drag the right-hand edge of the Welcome dialog box to see more profiles.
The Profile Presets tab has five built-in profiles that provide initial settings to create your own set of user profiles and implements drawing units. You can use the ‘Preset Profiles’ as templates to create your own set of user profiles.
- Each of the profile presets is associated with a Workspace (1).
- To specify the drawing units (2), choose either inches, mm, cm or m.
The following illustration shows the Profile Presets dialog.
To create a new profile, select one of the available profile and rename that Profile.
To use a template, click Start From Template on the welcome screen. The template dialog box appears.
You can choose one of the predefined templates to create your drawing layout. The following illustration shows the Select Template dialog.
|BIM Imperial||Allows you to create models using imperial units with the settings of BIM profile.|
|BIM Metric||Allows you to create models using metric units with the setting of BIM profile.|
|BIM Window Imperial||Allows you to create the geometry of the window or door using the imperial units with the set of predefined layers.|
|BIM Window Metric||Allows you to create the geometry of the window or door using the metric units with the set of predefined layers.|
Creating a Custom Template
Creating a custom template enables you to keep your pre-loaded settings such as standard layers and standard line types.
To create a custom template, open a drawing that has the desired settings you want and then save it as a drawing template (.dwt file). Your newly customized template is available in the ‘templates’ list.
The following illustration shows the Save-As dialog for creating a custom template.
