Overview of background settings

The BKGCOLOR system variable sets the background color of the drawing window in Model Space.

The BKGCOLORPS system variable sets the background color of the drawing window in Paper Space.

Note:
  • The color defined by the BKGCOLOR system variable applies to rendered visual styles only when the PERSPECTIVE system variable is Off.
  • The 2dWireframe visual style background always uses the BKGCOLOR system variable value.

When the PERSPECTIVE and the HORIZONBKG_ENABLE system variables are On, the background displays two areas that simulate the ground and sky. The colors of these areas are controlled by the HORIZONBKG_GROUNDORIGIN, HORIZONBKG_GROUNDHORIZON, HORIZONBKG_SKYHIGH, HORIZONBKG_SKYHORIZON, and HORIZONBKG_SKYLOW system variables.

The background color during the Block Edit session is controlled by:
  • the BKGCOLORDBEDIT system variable while editing a dynamic block.
  • the BKGCOLORPBEDIT system variable while editing a parametric block.
Important: All these background settings apply when the None background type is selected in the Background dialog box. The Solid, Gradient, or Image background type settings override these settings for all visual styles except 2dWireframe.

For information about the Solid, Gradient, and Image background types, see the BACKGROUND command article.
