Workspaces

About workspaces

The workspace is a predefined user interface configuration that organizes tools, menus, ribbons and panels for specific workflows, defining the arrangement and behavior of the BricsCAD user interface.

You can create, modify, save and restore workspaces to match your requirements and preferences.

BricsCAD provides a series of predefined workspaces that are optimized for different workflows. The default workspaces are:

Workspace License Level
2D Drafting Lite or higher
2D Drafting (Modern) Lite or higher
Modeling Pro or higher
BIM BIM or Ultimate
Mechanical Mechanical or Ultimate
Civil Survey Pro or higher
Ultimate Ultimate
Toolbars (Classic) Lite or higher

The WORKSPACE command sets the current workspace and manages workspaces.

The WSSAVE command saves the current workspace under a different name, thus creating a new workspace.

The WSAUTOSAVE system variable automatically saves workspace changes.

Workspaces can be further customized in the Customize dialog box. Run the WSSETTINGS command to open the Customize dialog box on the Workspaces tab. See the Customizing the workspace article for more information.

Setting the current workspace

To set the current workspace, use one of the following methods:

  • On the Start page, click the workspace name and choose a workspace from the drop-down list.
  • Open the Workspace Control drop-down list in the Status bar, then select a workspace.
  • Select a workspace from the Workspaces toolbar.
  • Run the WORKSPACE command, choose the set Current option and type the name of the workspace.
  • Set the WSCURRENT system variable to the name of the workspace.
  • Select a workspace from the BricsCAD Setup dialog box while setting up the Trial.
Note:
  • If the WSAUTOSAVE system variable is set On, the toolbar positions of the current workspace are automatically saved to the CUI file when you switch to another workspace. The default value of the WSAUTOSAVE system variable is On.
  • It is not recommended to switch workspaces if the name of the user profile refers to a workspace.
