Overview of 2D Mechanical Drawings commands

Description

These commands create dimensions or mechanical symbols according to ISO, DIN, JIS, ANSI standards.

These annotations are compatible with the legacy AutoCAD® Mechanical application.

The mechanical entities are added to specific layers, such as AM_5 and AM_12, regardless of what layer is set current.

Note: Mechanical entities created with AutoCAD® Mechanical may be stored in different layers as defined by this application.

BricsCAD 2D Mechanical Drawing Environment

To use Mechanical 2D commands in BricsCAD, you need to set the LOADMECHANICAL2D system variable to 1. This value is maintained after closing the current session. There are three use cases to use the mechanical 2D environment:

  1. Create a new drawing from a 2D template.
  2. Open an existing mechanical 2D drawing that contains mechanical entities.
Note: The minimum supported version of AutoCAD® Mechanical drawings is Mechanical 2012, and the maximum is Mechanical 2021. If you try to open an ACM drawing created with an unsupported version, a notification window prompts to choose one option:
    • Open in Read Only Mode (allows the user to view and possibly edit the drawing without saving it).
    • Close (stops opening of a drawing and returns the user to the previous state/screen).
  3. Start from a non-mechanical drawing, then add drafting standards using the AMSETUPDWG command.
Note:
  • After opening a drawing that contains mechanical entities, filling other drawings with mechanical-related data will be done on-demand. It will be possible when a user copies the mechanical-related entities to the vanilla drawing. In case of copying entities that are not related to the mechanical data, a vanilla drawing will not be filled with mechanical data.
  • When you open a drawing that contains mechanical entities, but the LOADMECHANICAL2D system variable is OFF, a warning balloon is displayed at the Status Bar that describes the situation and provides a hyperlink to immediately enable and load the mechanical 2D modules.
