Attachments panel

To open the Attachments panel, run the ATTACHMENTSPANELOPEN command or right-click a ribbon panel/toolbar and choose Attachments from the Panels list.

The Attachments panel offers a central location for viewing and managing attached drawings, images, PDF files and point clouds.

Attachments properties list header

Column headers describe the properties of each attachment. You can sort the attached files list in ascending or descending order for any property by clicking once or twice on the column header. A right-click menu on the column headers enables you to customize them:

Loaded
Specifies the load status of the attachments:
  • Load: the attachments are loaded and displayed in the drawing editor.
  • Unload: the attachments are not loaded or displayed in the drawing editor, but maintain their attachment information, such as scale and location.
  • Not found: the path is not found. The attachments have to be re-attached.
Attachment Type
Displays the attached file type (DWG, PDF, image or point cloud).
Name
Specifies the attachment name. By default, the attachment name is the same as the file name. To rename an attachment, double-click the name and enter the new name. Renaming an attachment does not change the file name.
References
Specifies how many times the attachments are referenced in the current drawing.
Note: Only visible block reference inserts on all nested levels are counted.
Type
Specifies the attachment type. Click the attachment type to switch between Attach and Overlay.
Date
Specifies the date on which the attached files were last saved.
Saved Path
Specifies the path, including the location and file name, of the attachments. To change the saved path, click it and enter the new path or select the Browse button to display the Select reference file dialog box. The Browse button is only displayed after you click on the saved path.
Found Path
Specifies the path, including the location and file name, of the attachments. The Found path may or may not be the same as the Saved path.

Properties

Displays the properties of the selected attachment in a row format. These are the same properties displayed in the Attachments properties list header with a column format.

Document name

Displays the active document's name.

Attached files list

Displays a list of attached files and their properties.

Note: When you select an XREF in the drawing area, it is highlighted in the Attachment panel and vice versa.

Attach button

Attach DWG
Displays the Select Reference File dialog box like the XATTACH command.
Attach PDF
Displays the Select PDF Underlay File dialog box like the PDFATTACH command.
Attach Image
Displays the Select image file dialog box like the IMAGEATTACH command.
Attach Point Cloud
Displays the Point Cloud Reference Manager dialog box like the POINTCLOUDREFERENCE command.

Refresh

Updates the Grid or Tree Views.

Detach

Detaches the selected attachments from the drawing.

Open

Opens the selected attachments.

Tree View

Displays the attachments in a structured tree view.

Grid View

Displays the attachments in a detailed grid view.

Context menu

A right-click menu on the selected attachments offers additional menu options depending on the file type:

DWG file PDF file
Open file
Opens the DWG attachment file.
Attach
Attaches a new reference of the attachment file.
Detach
Detaches all references of the attachment.
Reload
Reloads all references of the attachment, and all its inserts, including parametric ones, are rebuilt.
Unload
Unloads all references of the attachment.
Bind
Copies the contents of the attached drawing to the current drawing as a block reference (-XREF: _B command), according to the value of the BINDTYPE system variable.
Parametric external references are converted to local parametric blocks.
Insert
Inserts all instances of the attachment in the drawing as block references (-XREF: _I command).
Parametric external references are converted to local parametric blocks.
Run extended search for missing attachments
Searches for the attached file in an upper level folder if the folder is added in SRCHPATH system variable.
Import PDF
Launches the -PDFIMPORT command to import the attachment.
Clear cache
Removes the files from the related disk cache folder.
