Description

Creates section entities from 3D solids, 3D surfaces, polyface meshes and 3D faces. This command helps you to see inside a 3D entity.

Note: Newly created section planes have their Clip Display status set to On. As section planes are entities, they can be edited and deleted. Use the SECTIONPLANESETTINGS command to edit the section planes.

Options within the command

Note:
  • Use entity snaps to make the pick points accurate.
  • Turn On ORTHOMODE to create a section plane restricted to the X or Y axis.
  • Dynamic dimensions are displayed if Dynamic Input (DYN) is set to On (see Dynamic dimensions article).
Specify start point
Specifies the starting point of a 2D section plane.
Note:
  • The part of the solid at the right hand side (with respect to the draw order of the points) of the section plane is cut away.
  • BricsCAD ghosts the section plane during the cursor’s movement.
select Face
Select the planar face of a 3D solid.
Note:
  • The section plane coincides with the selected face. The Live Section property turns On automatically. Live sections are sections that can be interactively edited through the Properties panel.
  • BricsCAD ghosts the section plane during the cursor’s movement.
Draw
Draws polygonal-shaped section planes. Define the section plane by two or more points.
Note: The section plane is created through the specified points and perpendicular to the current UCS.
Orthographic
Places a section plane entity in one of the six standard drawing orientations, relative to the current UCS.
Note: BricsCAD draws the orthographic section plane through the center of the bounding box that contains all 3D entities in the drawing. For example, the result of a Top section plane:
